- about
- The live acoustic sessions on this collection are lightly mastered, but far from produced. Raw, unplugged and often acappella, Kimberly's voice is accompanied by crickets, buzzing neon lights, water and the sounds of a sleeping city at 4am.
Venues showcased in this album include the after-hours security hallway of an old airfield, a few park benches, the fountain at St. Edward's University, The Oaks Trailer Park and a cement pipe in a closed construction site.
David Jr. elegantly dissolves the boundaries of the typical recording venue to showcase some of the most intimate lyrical moments of songwriter and rock and roll icon Kimberly Freeman's career in her own South Austin, Texas neighborhood.
This is a refreshing glimpse into the quieter, sadder side of the explosive singer, songwriter and guitarist behind One-Eyed Doll.

- Track Name: Flowers Still Grow
-
I went to place
Where we used to go
Where the river still laughs
And the flowers still grow
I thought of your smile
And your pretty blue eyes
And I thanked God above
For you in my life
The old cemetery
Where we used to stroll
Where the headstones still stand
And the flowers still grow
I remembered the tears
In your pretty blues eyes
And I thanked God above
For you in my life
I stopped at the grave
Where you lay below
And I pulled out the weeds
Where the flowers still grow
I whispered a prayer
As I fell down and cried
And I thanked God above
for you in my life
Where the flowers still grow
That's you in my life
- Track Name: Float Away
-
Speckles on the ceiling
I'm sure glad it doesn't leak
Got myself a job
So I can pay the rent next week
Wonder if they'd notice if I disappeared today
Think I'll hold my breath awhile and try to float away
Cracks run down the mirror
How I wish I were pretty
Hope my friends go blind
So they don't have to look at me
Wonder if they'd notice if I disappeared today
Think I'll hold my breath awhile and try to float away
- Track Name: Cement
-
Everything hurts
When I think about you
There's cement in my veins
And I'm turning blue
Everything is gray
Since you left this earth
There's cement in my womb
And I'm about to give birth
Everything’s changed
Everything’s new
But I feel so old
Without you
Everything hurts
When I think about you
There's cement in my tears
And I'm crying
Everything is ugly
Everything is true
And everything hurts without you
- Track Name: Momma Don't You Cry
-
Momma don't you cry
You'll see him once again
Momma don't you cry
He's waiting around the bend
I can see an angel always by your side
And he'll take you up to Heaven when you die
So momma don't you cry
Momma don't you cry
Momma don't you cry
- Track Name: Flower Face
-
I am the wife of an eagle in the air
Dewdrops are my lips, and flowers are my hair
I was created to be fairest of all fair
I was created for an eagle in the air
I am the wife of an eagle in the sky
I cannot love him, though everyday I try
And when the darkness falls, I ask the forest why
I was created for an eagle in the sky
Tossing and turning
I dream my freedom is nigh
If living means slavery
I'm not afraid to die
I am the wife of an eagle in the air
A mortal wanderer has shown me how to care
I love him secretly - the only way I dare
I was created for an eagle in the air
Tossing and turning
I dream my freedom is nigh
If living means slavery
I'm not afraid to die
I am the wife of an eagle in the sky
I can no longer wait to live nor wait for him to die
He'll live forever and forever I will cry
I was created for an eagle in the sky
Tossing and turning
I dream my freedom is nigh
If living means slavery
I'm not afraid to die
- Track Name: The Mom Song
-
My mother used to say
"I love you so well
If I had a peanut
I'd give you the shell"
She told me tapioca
Was made of monkey brains
When I tried to make it from scratch
She never complained
My mother is a weird monkey
I guess I get it from her
She dances in the grocery store
And has as crush on MacGyver
When I look into her big brown hair
It becomes so clear to see
We're not so different after all
My mother's turned out just like me
People ask me why
I turned out this way
"Did a monkey farmer raise you?”
"Naw!"
This is what I say:
My mother is a weird monkey
I guess I get it from her
She dances in the grocery store
And has as crush on MacGyver
When I look into her big brown hair
It becomes so clear to see
We're not so different after all
My mother's turned out just like me
- Track Name: Suicidal Again
-
Here I am
Suicidal again
- Track Name: Yellow Angels
-
Sometimes I cry when I hear
My little angels sing
But I never show my tears
Think of all the trouble that would bring
My yellow angels
Singing in my ears
Yellow sunshine
Burns away my tears
Babies soon I'll have to leave you
But I never will forget
My yellow angels
I used to wonder why
I ever came around
And then the answer filled the sky
I heard a golden sound
Like yellow angels
Singing in my ears
Yellow sunshine
Burns away my tears
Babies soon I'll have to leave you
But I never will forget
My yellow angels
- Track Name: New Orleans
-
I took a walk in a crowded town
Where if you breathe too deeply
You're likely to drown
But the air's not as thick as the sin I found
In New Orleans.
Rainbow necks on drunken girls
Who'd sell their souls for a string of pearls
I hope there's no place in the world
Like New Orleans
New Orleans is a spooky place
You can see the devil smiling in every face
Voodoo babies put their pins in place
In New Orleans
I took a walk in a crowded town
I saw a dark boy get beaten down
I watched him turn to a reddish brown
In New Orleans
I held his hand and I sang my song
I was lying when I told him there was nothing wrong
I won't be back for sometime long
Not in New Orleans
New Orleans is a spooky place
You can see the devil smiling in every face
Voodoo babies put their pins in place
In New Orleans
